About Camp COLEY
Camp COLEY is a week-long overnight camp open to girls and boys entering grades 3 - 12. Camp is held at Mt. Allamuchy Scout Reservation, Camp Somers in Stanhope, NJ. The camp offers a fully supervised day and night program. Age appropriate activities include swimming, boating, first aid, ecology, outdoor skills, hiking, crafts, rock climbing, all-terrain vehicles, shooting sports, COPE (challenging outdoor personal experience), sports, games, songs, campfires and a Thursday night dance with a DJ.
Our campers are divided by grade level and gender, and are supervised by Camp COLEY counselors as well as the Boy Scout staff as they visit the various program areas throughout camp. Campers sleep in 2 person tents on cots. Shower facilities are provided and hot meals are provided daily in the dining hall.
Many of our dedicated leaders are graduates of our Counselor in Training (CIT) program and parents of campers. Leaders are assigned a site for the week, and work with this small group of campers throughout the camping week. Our volunteer leaders provide our campers with a wonderful camping experience in a safe and enjoyable environment. All of our leaders attend training that includes Youth Protection Training. Part of their responsibility as a leader is to help train our CITs (Counselors in Training) for when they become leaders. The CITs assist the leaders during the day and help setup and run various night time programs. The CITs encourage camp spirit and create a welcoming environment for all Camp COLEY campers.
Learning for Life
Camp COLEY dates back more than 35 years when we were part of the Agape Camp Fire Program in Philadelphia, PA. Our program has evolved over the years and we are now proud to be Exploring Post 229, Club 2290 with the Learning for Life program under the Boy Scouts of America. Learning for Life is designed to support schools and other youth-serving organizations in their efforts toward preparing youth to successfully handle the complexities of today's society and to enhance their self-confidence, motivation, and self-worth. Learning for Life also helps youth develop social and life skills, assists in character development, and helps them formulate positive personal values. It is the mission of Learning for Life to enable young people to become responsible individuals by teaching positive character traits, career development, leadership, and life skills so they can make ethical choices and achieve their full potential.
